Alan Kelly

Alan Kelly is an experienced Chartered Manager, recognised by the Chartered Management Institute, and qualified Engineer, working as a Project Manager in the Offshore Industry.

He has an Honors Degree in Motorsport Engineering from the University of Wales, Swansea, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Durham Business School. He possesses GWO and OPITO approved certification for offshore working.  Recently Alan’s project management experience was recognised when he gained the PRINCE2 Foundation Certificate in Project Management, and then went on to gain registered Practitioner status.  He gained Chartered Manager status in 2017.  In 2019 his experience in working safely, and commitment to health and safety was formalised when he gained the IOSH Managing Safely Qualification.

In 2010 Alan’s work in the offshore renewables industry began, working for Tekmar Energy as Projects Manager. This saw him spend time offshore on cable installation vessels viewing first hand the challenges faced by the industry. Alan then moved on to Reef Subsea and delivered an array cable installation project, Centrica-Lincs. After this, Alan project managed the build of Reef’s jet-trencher Q1000 from SMD.

In 2013 Alan moved to Technip Offshore Wind to project manage the array cable installation on the Borkum West project. It was here that Alan experienced some of the biggest challenges of his career and learnt lessons which have proved invaluable in subsequent projects.

Over the last few years Alan has been providing contract project management services to EON on Humber Gateway and Rampion offshore wind farms, and also to Jan De Nul on the development and build of new trencher tools.  Alan gained valuable export/interconnector installation experience while providing project management services to SSE in their submarine cables project team.  Currently, amongst other things, Alan is providing package management services to an offshore wind farm in France concerning the supply and installation of array cables.

Prior to working in the offshore industry Alan developed his engineering and project management skills in the automotive and industrial lighting industries. Whilst working at Thorn Lighting Alan demonstrated his engineering and design prowess by developing patented fixing methodologies for industrial lights.  Alan started his career at Calsonic Kansei, going on to spend 4 years working in Japan.  At this exhaust system design and supply company Alan not only became fluent in Japanese but also coped with the cultural challenges that he faced on a daily basis
